Genre filmmaking & writing · Unit 1.4
Manon de Reeper is a Rotterdam-based writer and director, and the founder of Fathom House, a production company focused on creating bold, character-driven horror and science fiction.
Her path here wasn't a straight line. She holds a Bachelor's in Clinical Psychology and a Master's in Global Criminology from Utrecht University, and what she learned there about the human mind and the systems we live in still shapes everything she writes. After finishing her degrees, she left the Netherlands to explore the world, living in countries from Australia to the United States to several years aboard a sailboat in the Caribbean. She founded the independent film magazine Film Inquiry along the way and spent nearly a decade cutting her teeth in the American film industry, including co-creating a Hollywood mentorship program that connected over 1800 Women of Color with industry professionals.
She has since brought that experience home to build Fathom House in Rotterdam. She has written and directed two short films, Uncontrol and Radiant Choice, and is attached to write and direct two feature films. She's also a teacher at Schrijfschool Rotterdam, where she leads workshops that treat genre writing (horror and sci-fi) with the same craft and seriousness as any literary form.
